Understanding Microblading: Your Guide to Fuller Eyebrows

What is Microblading for Eyebrows?
Microblading involves using a small manual blade, not a machine or tattoo device, to deposit pigment into the eyebrow area. The goal is to create the appearance of natural hair strokes, giving the illusion of fuller eyebrows. However, the success of microblading depends heavily on skin type. For individuals over the age of 55, microblading is generally not recommended. As we age, our skin becomes thinner, and the ideal depth for pigment placement is only about as thick as three sheets of copy paper. Therefore, older individuals or those with very thin skin are not suitable candidates for this procedure.
Instead, Ombre Powder Brows, also known as Microshading, may be a better option. Ombre Powder Brows create a soft, powdered look that is suitable for most skin types. For those with thicker skin, Nano Machine Hair Strokes can be a better choice, although this technique is more expensive due to the extensive training required and the longer procedure time.
For thicker skin types, I often combine Microblading and Nano Machine Hair Strokes to shorten the procedure while achieving similar results.
Most permanent makeup salons offer free consultations. A professional technician should be able to provide expert advice and may even perform a few test strokes to show how the healed results will look.
Microblading typically lasts around one year. To maintain the results, it's recommended to get a yearly touch-up. However, some artists or clients may request a deeper application, which can lead to complications. Going too deep can cause trauma to the skin, scarring, color changes (such as turning green), pigment spreading, or hair strokes becoming too thick and unnatural.
When looking for a trustworthy artist, remember that price or years of experience don’t always guarantee quality. Ask friends for recommendations and focus on key factors such as whether the artist provides professional advice, has positive reviews, an impressive photo gallery, and shows genuine care for your needs.
The average price for microblading is around $300 USD, but it can vary depending on location, the artist's experience, and the services offered. Hope that helps!
